TNLH offers a vast range of educational and recreational courses to the local community at an affordable cost. The following is a brief description of the courses currently on offer. Computers Courses

Our Computer courses are perfect for the complete beginner through to those with confident skills who need to update their knowledge of particular software packages. Ask our friendly staff which computer course would suit your needs. Even if it’s not on our timetable we can probably help you, so let us know your computer needs and we will see how we can help.

Office for Work

This is the ideal class to improve your Office skills whether you wish to gain further employment or pursue further study. You can learn Word, Excel or PowerPoint in this self paced class. Start from the basics and continue through the various levels, increasing your confidence and understanding of the various Office programs.

Reckon Accounts/MYOB

Learn how to use Reckon Accounts, Reckon Accounts Payroll or MYOB, MYOB Payroll the most popular accounting and book keeping programs used by many businesses. Work at your own pace and increase your employment prospects. (Reckon Accounts used to be called QuickBooks. We also offer private tuition in QuickBooks Intuit)

Photoshop

Photoshop is one of our most popular computer courses. Learn scanning, acquire images from the hard drive, program layout, functions of the four major tools: repairing scratches in old or new images, using the healing brush, toning, remove / replace parts of images and resizing images.

Windows 10 Beginners

This course is the perfect introduction to computers using the new Windows 10 system. It is a great course for those who are very new to computers and want to build a good foundation of knowledge.

Pathways Computers

This is the perfect course for those who have completed the beginner’s computer course and need to further their knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. It is an entry level course to introduce the basics of the Word and Excel programs, particularly suited to those with minimal computer experience to build their confidence. This course also really cements your knowledge of finding your way around the computer and file management.

Getting Connected

This is the perfect course to follow on from the beginners computer courses to help you get connected. You’ll revise the basics and be introduced to the wonderful wide world web, learn to use emails correctly and attachments.You will then be introduced to other ways to keep you connected with friends and family via Skype and Facebook. Learn to use these programs correctly and safely and you will discover a whole new world of connecting with people.

Web Page Design

If you would like to learn about Web Page Design the friendly helpers at our Digital Shed are happy to assist you. Digital Shed is held Fridays at the VRI Queens Parade, Traralgon. Discover how to use online software to make and publish a webpage. Explore different free online applications to create a web presence for yourself, your business, hobby or project. You can also learn how to promote your site using social media and look at the options for registering domains and hosting web sites

IPad or Tablet

So you’ve been told to buy an Android Tablet or iPad or been given one by your kids and have no idea what to do next? Discover all about apps and how to operate and get the best out of your device.

Genealogy

Families are fascinating and this course offers you the chance to delve back into your family history. There is so much information available on the Worldwide Web, but where do you start? Be guided by our expert tutor and have access to the most up to date websites.

We also offer computer courses and workshops in Publisher, PowerPoint, Ebay, Digital Storytelling etc. We have waiting lists for these courses so please register your interest with the office.

Increasing Women’s Options – Inspiring Women

The Increasing Women’s Options course is full of fun, challenges and new experiences for women who want to discover and explore their potential. It is also for women who want to know how to re-enter the workforce, return to study, follow a goal and have a voice in their communities. Participants will build new strengths and talents, become aware of new possibilities in life, practice assertiveness and clear communication, in addition to developing computer and workplace skills. This course is extremely popular and places are limited. It is held one day a week for approximately 6 months and we run one course each year. Ensure your place by registering your interest early.

Life Skills for Employment

This is an exciting opportunity for those seeking to build their employability skills.Topics covered will include: Self Esteem, Confidence Building, Personal Effectiveness/Strengths, Communication Skills, Assertiveness Skills and Boundary Setting, Goal Setting, Time Management, Working as a team, Personal Presentation and Interview Skills. This course is very popular and runs for 2 hours per week for one term. It is usually held in the 2nd half of the year and places are limited.

Literacy and Numeracy

These classes build on students literacy and numeracy skills. Particularly suitable for those with interrupted schooling/education who wish to improve their skills to assist with further employment and study opportunities. Private tuition is also available. Yoga

Yoga is a very popular gentle form of exercise and stress management offering many health benefits and an increased sense of well-being. We offer day and night classes and Yoga has become so popular we usually have waiting lists.

Yoga for Healing

This yoga class is particularly suited to those with health challenges whether they are physical, mental or emotional. A gentle introduction to yoga to compliment your health care plan. This is a 6 week course and will be timetabled on Thursdays at 1pm.

Pilates

If you’re interested in good health and fitness come and join our Pilates class run by international instructor Adriana. Pilates develops core strength, increases muscular strength and tone, promotes mental awareness, improves coordination, balance, flexibility and promotes a leaner appearance.

Belly dancing – not taking enrolments at the moment

The Ancient art of belly dancing has been providing the benefits of flexibility, strengthening, coordination and mental wellbeing for over 6000 years.. Belly dancing is an enjoyable exercise and dance style for all ages and abilities. Brazillian belly dance instructor Adriana has taught and danced professionally internationally for many years and is now teaching day and night classes.

Tai Chi – not taking enrolments at the moment

Tai Chi is an exercise of slow controlled movements which has proven to have many health benefits. It is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels and is beneficial in improving posture, flexibility, strength and helps a range of disorders including anxiety, arthritis, fatigue, joint stiffness and stress.

Art & Craft

 

Art

Discover your creative side with this fun and relaxing art class. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced our experienced tutor will guide you. You can learn: flowers, scenes, portraits and working with: Acrylics, Oils, Water colours, Crayons, Pencils or try your hand at Scratch Art. You are limited only by your imagination!

Creative Craft

Love your craft and love to have a chat? Then this is the perfect class for you. You can either work on the class project for the term or you are welcome to bring your own project to work on. Students in this class love to work with a variety of different craft techniques. Friendship and fun is provided, but you will need to supply your own materials.

Embroidery

A great class for the enthusiastic embroiderer. Work on a project using kits that can be purchased from the tutor. Examples of embroidery: wool, Silk, Ribbon, Felting.

Sewing

Learn how to get the most out of your sewing machine and make items of your own choosing.  Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours.

Knitting & Crochet

This class is suitable for both the beginners or advanced student, covering all aspects of knitting and crocheting depending on the needs of the individual. There are set projects to work on each term, but you are also welcome to bring your own project and join in the chatter and laughter in this popular class.

Patchwork

Come along and enjoy working on a class project or bring along your own project to work on.

Mosaics

Create your own mosaic, from table tops to stepping stones. You are limited only by your imagination. Tools are supplied for a small materials fee, however you will need to bring most of your own materials, i.e. something flat to mosaic and tiles.

Unfinished Projects

Do you have some unfinished craft projects that you just can’t seem to get finished at home? Then come along and enjoy a chat and a cuppa and give yourself some time to finish that great project you started.

Advanced Italian

Previous knowledge of Italian grammar is essential. Lessons are conducted in Italian. Monday day time class.

Conversational Italian – we offer beginners, intermediate, advanced

This is the perfect class for those who want to travel and have a basic conversation in Italian. You will learn introductions, numbers, alphabet, food, clothes, how to handle yourself at the airport/restaurant/taxi/hotel/bus station etc with a little of the history of Italy and what sights to see thrown in.

This is a conversational Japanese class which will also introduce you to different aspects of Japanese culture.

SLR Cameras Beginners and Advanced

Learn how your camera works and how to take better photos with this great introductory course and then hone your photography skills even further with our professional photographer. This is the perfect pathway for further studies.

Cup Cake Cuties Decorating Classes

Discover the joys of decorating your own cakes with our relaxed and fun Cup Cake Cuties class. Jody will teach you how to use mediums such as piping, fondant, gum paste, flower paste and modelling chocolate. Lots of exciting themes are chosen each term.
